Weil ich es für ein ausgesprochen anspruchsvolles Genre halte.
Zum einen vom rein technischen Standpunkt: Die Aufgabe des Portraits ist die Darstellung einer Person. Das ist schonmal gar nicht so ohne, denn dafür ist die hinreichende Ähnlichkeit des Werks mit dieser Person erforderlich. Inwiefern das erfüllt ist, lässt sich übrigens ohne irgendwelchen künstlerischen Sachverstand beurteilen. Man erkennt die Person einfach besser oder schlechter.
Zum anderen aus philosophischer Sicht: Für Menschen dreht sich letztlich alles um die Auseinandersetzung mit anderen Menschen. Je besser man das Wesen und die Motivation des Gegenübers versteht, desto erfolgreicher interagiert man.
Die Steigerung dessen: Je besser man das Wesen und die Motivation des Gegenübers versteht, desto besser versteht man sich selbst.
Diese beiden Komponenten, die Erkennbarkeit und etwas vom Wesen des Modells, versuche ich nach Kräften zu liefern.
